The very first stocking of native fish has taken place\u00a0at Kings Billabong on the eastern outskirts of\u00a0Mildura. VRFish Chairman, Rob Loats was on hand to help with the fish release along with Minister for Agriculture\u00a0Jaala Pulford, Member for Northern Victoria Mark Gepp and\u00a0Aunty Janine Wilson\u00a0from the Millewa-Mallee Aboriginal Corporation.<\/p>\n

20,000 Murray cod fingerlings went in today, with 20,000 golden perch and 40,000 silver perch going in later this week. These fish will take between 3-4 years before they reach a catchable size.\u00a0Further stockings will occur next summer.<\/p>\n

This stocking boost is\u00a0great\u00a0news for Victorian\u00a0recreational fishers with another premier native fish fishery in the making. Kings Billabong is a\u00a0beautiful and tranquil fishing spot and\u00a0also a\u00a0very special for the place for the Aboriginal people of the Millewa Mallee region.<\/p>\n
