National Gone Fishing Day is our favourite day of the year! On Sunday 20 October 2019, it is the perfect opportunity to wet a line with your friends and family. We want to see the biggest Gone Fishing Day ever in 2019!
Gone Fishing Day is our symbolic day for recreational fishers to celebrate our favourite pastime. It is presented by the Australian Recreational Fishing Foundation (ARFF), an organisation that VRFish is proudly a member of.
We encourage all fishers from across Victoria to either go fishing with their friends and family or attend a Gone Fishing Day event. Check out the VRFish events page for a list of events happening across the state. A full list of events from across Australia will be added to the official Gone Fishing Day website.
If you’re new to fishing, it is a great day to try wetting a line as a recreational fishing licence is not required in Victoria on Gone Fishing Day, Sunday 20 October 2019.
Is your club ready for Gone Fishing Day?
Fishing clubs, organisations and community groups are encouraged to run a Gone Fishing Day event. The Victorian Fisheries Authority have funding available to those holding an event to celebrate fishing on Gone Fishing Day. To support your event, funding is available from the RFL small grants program.
There is also additional funding available for fishing rods to run fishing clinics on Gone Fishing Day. Up to 20 fishing clubs will have the opportunity to receive a $600 Gone Fishing Day grant to purchase rods and reels to be used in fishing clinics. The Gone Fishing Day grant applications close on 7 October 2019.
