VRFish’s inaugural Lure Learning Program was held on Sunday at Cairn Curran with 152 future lure Jedi’s and their families undertaking the fun learning event.
Families travelled from near and far to participate. Joining the local families, we also saw people travel from Melbourne and even a family who were from Brisbane participated in the event!
The program has been developed by our EO and lure fishing expert, Ben, to give people of all ages and abilities the skills to smack a fish on a lure and also encourage families to join their local fishing clubs.
Participants learnt about aquatic ecology from OzFish Unlimited‘s Andy, lure painting and design from our EO Ben, as well as equipment and rigging, casting and best practice from more 35 fishing club volunteers.
The training involved the core knowledge and skills that aspiring lure fishers require to slow roll a 50mm lipless crankbait or 4″ paddle tail soft plastic in search of Cairn Curran’s golden perch. Alas, no fish were harmed in the making of this event!
Logan Haines took out the lure of the day award with his custom lure colour Cairn Curran Yabby and scored a 3-6kg VRFish spin combo.
