Fishing as Exercise Allowed Under Lockdown

Visit the Victorian Coronavirus website for more information.

On Thursday, Acting Premier James Merlino announced a circuit breaker 7-day lockdown in response to the latest Covid outbreak in Victoria.

Since the announcement, we’ve had enquiries from recfishers asking “can we still go fishing?” The good news is, yes. You can go fishing as your daily exercise, but there are a number of rules to follow.

Recreational fishing as exercise is allowed, provided:

  • It’s within 5km from your home
  • It doesn’t require the use of a facility **
  • 2 hours maximum per day
  • With your household or one other person (as long as neither of you travel more than 5km from your home)
  • You must wear a mask at all times

** The requirement to undertake exercise without using a facility is still being clarified. Are piers, boat ramps and boating banned? We’ll keep you posted as news comes to hand.

Stay Safe Everyone!
