Importance of Stocked Fishing Lakes to Victorian Recreational Fishers

Earlier this year, we asked Victorian recreational fishers to share which are their top three most important stocked urban lakes in their local area.

The lakes listed in the survey were the Victorian Fisheries Authority’s stocked family fishing lakes across the state and were divided into nine different regions: Melbourne, Central Highlands, Barwon, South West, Western District/Mallee, Goulburn, Loddon-Campaspe, Gippsland and North East.

A total of 1122 respondents participated in the survey. An invitation to complete the survey was sent to our e-newsletter subscribers and members, shared via our social media platforms and posted on our website.

The results will be used to help us tell the Government just how important small lakes are to the local community. From your feedback, we’re able to demonstrate the importance of stocking these lakes and show the value of access to community lakes. In some areas, there are local Governments that are banning fishing in community lakes – we can’t see that happen.

The results of the survey can be viewed below.
