Community Activation Grants Program available to Victorian Recreational Fishing Groups

The ‘Change Our Game’ Community Activation Grants Program is now open to apply for up to $5000 of funding for fishing clubs to undertake learning and training opportunities to build capability and leadership in gender equality specific to their sport, club, or organisation. 

Some of this training will be required to qualify for State Government grants in the future.

Some of the program’s objectives are to increase the participation of women and girls in active recreation, provide opportunities for clubs to gain relevant skills and knowledge of gender equality practices and to increase promotion and celebration of gender equality in active recreation settings. 

The grants scheme has three streams, with the ‘Stream 2 – Capability and Leadership’ being relevant to fishing clubs. This stream will ‘Undertake learning and training opportunities to build capability and leadership in gender equality specific to their sport, club, or organisation.’ 

Activities under this stream could include: 

  • educational sessions addressing gender equitable access and use policies and practices of facilities (in line with the Fair Access Policy), such as: 
    • –  introductory gender equity training for club members, players, and leadership; 
    • –  gender equitable access, scheduling and use policy implementation education awareness;
    • –  club management training tailored to building a welcoming, safe, and inclusive environment; 
  • bystander training for club members, players, and leadership; 
  • development of a club women and girls inclusion strategy; 
  • organisational leadership or governance development; 

As part of an application to the Program, responses to the following questions will be required to describe the activity the club and how the activity supports the identified outcome of the ‘Change Our Game’ Grants Program.

eg ‘increased participation by women and girls in sport and recreation.’

To qualify for the grants, applicants must be registered as an incorporated body at the time of application and for the duration of the proposed activity and hold an active ABN. They must also implement and maintain policies relating to the Child Safe Standards in accordance with the Child Wellbeing and Safety Act 2004 (Vic).

Applications are competitive and will be assessed against criteria including the proposed start and completion date, the scope of the program, providing a detailed budget and links to training company websites or brochures. 

Applications can be submitted via Change Our Game website.
