July 30, 2025
On Saturday 26th July, VRFish hosted a state forum in Geelong with over 80 delegates, members, past VRFish Board members, and top volunteer advocates travelling from right across the state to attend. These delegates represent thousands of Victorian recreational fishers through their respective fishing clubs, associations and organisations.
Fishin with Fergy’s Peter Ferguson was our fantastic MC for the evening and he included a talk on the highs and lows of making a fishing show – and we thought being the peak body was a circus!
During the state forum, discussions included an overview of what VRFish achieved in 2024/25, what we are working on now and the development of our 2026 state election policy.
VRFish Chair Rob Loats ran though recent VRFish achievements and EO Ben Scullin presented on current and future advocacy issues and formation of election policy for next year’s State election.
Following the forum, the event switched to celebrating the 30th Anniversary of VRFish, 30 years of our volunteers making fishing better for everyone and the awarding of eight lifetime achievement awards.
Bob Pearce, Albert Park Yachting & Angling Club’s VRFish delegate, presented the 30 year history of VRFish. For many, this was an eye-opening presentation showcasing 30 years of history and advocacy by your peak body.
We were thrilled to have Christine Couzens MP, State Member for Geelong, present our eight Lifetime Achievement Awards recipients.
The VRFish Lifetime Achievement Award is the highest honour which can be bestowed by VRFish for longstanding and valued service to recreational fishing in Victoria.
We congratulate Bob Pearce (Albert Park Yachting and Angling Club), Priya Cardinaletti (Scuba Divers Federation of Victoria), Robert Loats, Geoff Cramer (Ballarat and District Anglers Association), Steven Relf (Howqua Association), and John Hotchin (Association of Geelong and District Angling Clubs) who were all awarded for their continued service with VRFish.
Pat Washington and Franz Grasser were recognised for their incredible service posthumously.
For 30 years, our volunteers have been the backbone of VRFish. Through their immense passion and drive, they have worked tirelessly to give back countless hours to the sport they love.
