Marketing: How to talk to recfishers
This section will provide advice to promote your club, club activities and ways to attract new members and volunteers.
Social Media
Social media is a fantastic way to keep club members up to date and talk to the wider fishing community.
We know that a lot of our Victorian fishing clubs members have private Facebook groups for their members to communicate club news. However, creating a public Facebook page will allow your club to promote your club activities with current members, potential members and the broader public.
On a Facebook page, you can share photos, videos and text. It’s a great way to promote your club to the public and attract new members. Through advertising events, fundraisers and projects your club may be involved in.
Anyone with a Facebook account can create a Facebook page or help manage one if they’re given access to the page. Find instructions to create a Facebook page here. Link: https://www.facebook.com/business/help/104002523024878

Club email
Setting up an organisational email is a reliable way for members, potential members and the public to contact the club –particularly after a change of committee members.
Using a dedicated club email address allows multiple committee members to access and manage incoming and outgoing emails collectively, preventing information loss and ensuring continuity even if individual volunteers or members change roles.
A club email keeps members’ personal contact details private and reduces the risk of accidental data breaches or misuse of personal email accounts.
It ensures all official communications are consistent in tone and style and are archived centrally for accountability and future reference.
If using a club email, ensure that the login details are kept on record and passed onto future committee members.
Overall, using a club-specific email address enhances communication efficiency, security, and professionalism, which are vital for maintaining member engagement and the smooth operation of your fishing club.
Club Website
A dedicated website for your fishing club is crucial to effectively update members, attract new members, and ensure public access to club information.
A website can be used as a central platform for members to be informed on club activities and access the latest club news, event details and other club updates. It can also be used as a tool for helping clubs to renew their membership.
Using a club website can also help your club’s admin team as it can be used as a central platform to house club membership forms, event and tournament rules, and other information that your members may need to access.
Clubs can build their own website, or they can hire a web designer. To build a basic website, you’ll need to consider the cost of a website builder (eg. Wix, WordPress), a domain name (eg. fishingclub.com.au), and website hosting (may be included with website builder).
Once your website is up and running, ensure you include as much information as you can about your fishing club such as contact details, membership sign-up forms, about your club, club history, club event calendar, any relevant club rules and forms.
Club Software
There are a range of ways you can manage your club’s administration, below we’ve provided a case study of Hello Club used by one of our member fishing clubs.
Hello Club Case Study
Hello Club Link: < https://helloclub.com/> is a club management software that Loch Sport Fishing Association is currently utilising to manage their club administration and their admin team love it!
It’s made their admin a breeze so we thought it’d be helpful to share in case your fishing club is looking for a management software to help run your club.
The Hello Club software allows clubs to automate their membership registration and renewals, collect online payments, allows you to manage events and communicate with your members. It can integrate with other programs your club may already use such as Xero, Stripe and Mailchimp.
Craig Holland is Loch Sport Fishing Association’s Secretary and has been using Hello Club for around 18 months. He said it’s been a great solution for their club and, importantly, allows for multiple users to access the program.
Craig said it’s been a great program to manage their growing club as it’s gone from 20 to over 160 members. It’s made the whole process much easier for all involved. Members are able to create their own account to manage their own memberships, pay their renewals etc. At a recent event, he was able to help several families join the club directly from his smartphone.
While the program cost starts from $48 per month, it is dependent on which plan you require for your club. For example, it costs Loch Sport Fishing Association around $900 per year and Craig said it’s been worth every dollar!
Overall, it’s a fantastic solution for club management to make the admin of running your club easier and less time-consuming.
