Call for New Members

Passionate about fishing? Want to contribute to a better fishing future?

VRFish, Victoria’s peak recreational fishing body, is seeking expressions of interests from Victorian recreational fishers to join our State Council. Currently, there are five (5) vacancies for individual recreational fishers who are not a member of a fishing club.

State Council members fulfil the key role of ensuring that they are in contact with, and represent the views of, recreational fishers in Victoria to the State Council. VRFish’s State Council consists of delegates from across Victoria including representatives of fishing associations, large fishing clubs, affiliated organisations and individual fishers.

VRFish and it’s Board depend upon members local knowledge and input to ensure that advocacy efforts are directed into the correct areas and with appropriate priority.

Members are expected to attend quarterly State Council meetings held in Melbourne

Roles and Responsibilities

State Council Members:

  • represent their local community in VRFish decision-making and policy development
  • advocate for a broad range of recreational fishing related issues
  • facilitate effective communication between VRFish and the recreational fishing community, including fishing clubs.
  • consider the diversity of the interests and needs of their local recreational fishing community
  • observe principles of good governance and act with integrity
  • attend State Council Meetings as a prime means of communicating the views of their constituents.
  • contribute their knowledge and expertise throughout the period of their membership

VRFish has a long and strong history of advocating for better and more sustainable fishing, and bringing fishers and the community together to work towards this vision.

Members vote for the VRFish Board and Chair at the Annual General meeting in accordance with our constitution.
