Habitat

There is no doubt that in recent years, fishers have expanded their thinking about what they believe is vital for sustaining our fishing into the future. Habitat is now seen as critical role to ensuring the quality of our fisheries and fishing experiences.

Victorian fishers know that improved habitat delivers better fishing outcomes. Whether it is freshwater or saltwater, habitat is seen as a fundamental contributor to how successful we are in catching a fish.

VRFish continues to play a lead role in advocating for investment in fish habitat and promoting the role that all Victorian recreational fishers can play in identifying areas that require attention and leading the implementation of restoration efforts. Across the state, there are many recreational fishing organisations, fishing clubs and volunteers that are undertaking incredible work on behalf of their fishery.

Our priorities:

  • Habitat protection, restoration and enhancement
  • Build capacity with fishers to grow, participate in and lead fish habitat works

We play a lead role in advocating for and participating in projects and forums to secure positive outcomes and on-ground works for habitat protection, restoration and enhancement.
