UPDATED 31 March 2020
To help slow the spread of corona virus, Maritime Safety Victoria has confirmed that recreational boating is a non-essential activity and is asking all Victorians to cancel their boating activities.
The additional advice we have received from Maritime Safety Victoria on March 31st is:
- Authorised officers will be speaking to people they see out on the water and recommending they head home.
- Social distancing and gathering rules now attract significant penalties. The police are able to enforce these rules by way of an on-the-spot infringement.
- The message from the Premier is clear. You should only leave home to: shop for food or supplies, seek medical care, exercise, or for work/study where necessary.
- Anyone who chooses to head out on the water is putting themselves and others at risk – not only through the potential spread of COVID-19, but the additional pressure placed on emergency services and search and rescue volunteers.
- If you can stay home, you must stay home.
