This Saturday, 7th September, marks the opening of river trout season. What better way to celebrate than by helping stock big and feisty trout into the Goulburn River!
VRFish joined the Victorian Fisheries Authority and Minister for Agriculture and Regional Development, Jaclyn Symes, for a special fish stocking ahead of the opening of the trout season on Saturday. 2,000 ‘stonker’ trout as they are affectionately known have been stocked into the Goulburn River in earnest.
Last year, the banks of the river came alive with fishers from all over the state trying their hand at catching one of the biggest sized trout to ever be hooked up on their lines.
The fish don’t seem too fussy with people catching them on powerbait, soft plastics, hard lures, worms and flies – and they were still being caught months after they were released. Another fantastic family friendly initiative to get more fishers out to regional areas and explore the Murrindindi Shire.
