Vale Wally Nicolson

VRFish is deeply saddened by the recent passing of Wallace (Wally) Nicolson, a passionate advocate for fishing and boating and VRFish member.Wally was a member of the Beaumaris Motor Yacht Squadron (BMYS), joining in 1985, and is said to have quickly become a ‘part of the club’s fabric’. He enjoyed sharing stories with friends, especially, over a glass of red wine.

Wally served on the BMYS Board for many years, including several terms as Secretary, and serving as Commodore from 2004 to 2007. In 2014, Wally was awarded Life Membership, in recognition of his service to the club.

For more than 25 years, Wally was a VRFish member, representing Boating Victoria, a division of Yachting Victoria, and he later became an individual member.

Wally was regularly involved in our regional meetings and served on VRFish committees including the marine safety and infrastructure committees. He also represented VRFish on external recreational boating and safety groups, including Marine Safety Victoria’s recreational boating advisory group, and he was part of an Ocean Ramp Review in the early 2000’s.

Beyond his love of fishing, Wally loved sport – particularly football and cricket. A 50-year member of the Melbourne Cricket Club, he was also an MCC tour guide.

The VRFish Board, staff and members extend our deepest condolences to Wally’s wife, Coralie, to their family and friends.
