Making fishing better for all Victorians

In 1995, VRFish was established as the Victorian Recreational Fishing Peak Body and has proudly represented Victoria’s recreational fishing for more than 30 years.

We represent a vibrant and diverse community of more than one-million recreational fishers. Independent from government, we are fishers ourselves and committed to making fishing better, more sustainable, and more enjoyable for everyone.

We stand up for recreational fishers and their interests when decisions are made that impact our fisheries. From protecting fish habitat and ensuring water security, to improving access, infrastructure, and promoting best practices, our goal is to work in partnership so that recreational fishing in Victoria continues to thrive.

For more than 30 years, our strength has come from our members. By drawing on the passion and expertise of our members, and supported by a small team of professional staff, we ensure fishers have a strong, united and independent voice. The greater the support we receive from Victoria’s recreational fishers, the stronger our ability to standup for the future of fishing and advocate for better fishing outcomes.

Being the voice for our fishery has never been more important. Today’s challenges are more complex than ever before. Ranging from environmental threats, pollution, and water management to industrial development, loss of fishing access, litter, and illegal fishing. VRFish is dedicated to protecting the ecosystems our fish rely on while fighting for fair and sustainable recreational fishing opportunities.

We also work to highlight the many benefits fishing provides to our community whether social, cultural, or economic. Fishing is not only a pastime; it is a way to connect with nature, unwind, and enjoy meaningful time outdoors with family and friends. Our vision is to make fishing better, for everyone.

We encourage responsible fishing practices that safeguard our fisheries and ensure the next generation enjoys the same opportunities to discover, learn, and fall in love with fishing as we did.
