2022 Call for Board Nominations

Could you be a leader at VRFish? You are invited to nominate for the VRFish Board and make a contribution to leading the organisation that has been representing Victoria’s recreational fishers for more than 25 years.

The Victorian Recreational Fishing Peak Body in accordance to the rotation prescribed by its Constitution is seeking nominations from its voting membership to fill the 4 Director positions for a two-year term at its Annual General Meeting (AGM) on 9 November 2022.

VRFish is committed to ensuring the diversity of the Board represents the diversity of the recreational fishing community. Women, Indigenous people, people with a disability, young people and people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds are encouraged to nominate.


There are four (4) positions on the VRFish Board open for nomination this year. These board member positions are open to all eligible members to consider if they believe they can add value and guide VRFish during an exciting period of change. VRFish has a gender equity board policy and we encourage female members to apply for a board position. Positions will be appointed for a two (2) year period. The positions are four Directors.

Eligibility

In accordance with the VRFish constitution, members eligible to nominate for the positions and vote on ballots (if required) are the voting members of VRFish which include:

  • Adult members (Individual adult voting members)
  • Recreational Fishing Association members
  • Recreational Fishing Club members
  • Affiliates (Affiliate Organisations)

Skills and Attributes

Suitable skills that nominating board members should hold include:

  1. Candidates should be involved in recreational fishing
  2. Candidates should have some knowledge of the recreational fishing industry or work in the industry
  3. Candidates should be able to advocate on behalf of anglers
  4. Candidates should have reasonable knowledge of how a not-for-profit organisation operates
  5. Candidates should have knowledge of environmental issues that impact fish survival
  6. Knowledge of business, finance, governance and corporate operations is favourable
  7. Chairperson candidates should have experience at local, regional and state level chairperson roles

Nominations for candidates can be completed by: 

  1. Completing the attached form, to be signed by both the nominating member and the candidate being nominated to the position; and 
  2. The candidate has the right and is advised to provide a written statement of no more than 250 words, outlining their relevant expertise and the contribution that they may bring to the Board. In the event that the number of candidates exceeds the number of Board positions to be filled, this statement will be distributed to members to assist in voting for the preferred candidate.

Any forms received later than 7 October 2022 will strictly not be to be accepted.
