The 5th Annual ‘Against The Odds’ fishing competition, run by Victorian Trout and Redfin Fishing (VTRF) Facebook group, along with the Ballarat Fly Fishers Club, will raise awareness of a rare, misunderstood terminal illness, Amyloidosis. It is an incurable disease which is currently unfunded by the Government.
Against The Odds aims to raise awareness for the disease after a member of the group, Alan Greig, was diagnosed with the illness in May 2015 and given a very poor prognosis of 6-8 weeks to live. Thankfully, Alan is still defying the odds and in good spirits, he refuses to give into despair.
The 2020 Against the Odds competition will be held on Saturday 21 March at Lake Wendouree in Ballarat. Visit the Against the Odds Facebook Event for more information.
The entry fees along with any additional donations collected on the day will be donated to the Eastern Health Amyloidosis Fund via a cheque presented to Eastern Health’s Dr Simon Gibbs.
