Family fishing lakes stocked ahead of the school holidays

Ahead of the winter school holidays, the Victorian Fisheries Authority are stocking around 35,000 rainbow trout into more than 70 lakes across the state.

Over the weekend, Minister for Outdoor Recreation Steve Dimopoulos helped release 2,000 rainbow trout into Karkarook Lake, Heatherton. The stocked rainbow trout are ready-to-catch, weighed approximately 200 grams each and were grown at Victoria’s Snobs Creek Hatchery.

If you’re looking for a family-friendly day out, you cannot go wrong with taking your family to a family fishing lake. These lakes are located throughout Melbourne and regional Victoria. The lakes bode good access through fishing platforms and walking tracks which make them a great option for families looking to wet a line.

When stocking the lakes prior to the school holidays, the Victorian Fisheries Authority stock ready-to-catch rainbow trout as they typically respond to a variety of baits and lures making it easy to reel in a fish.

Through the Victorian Government’s Go Fishing and Boating plan, the Victorian Fisheries Authority currently stock more than all other states and territories combined to meet their commitment to stock 10 million fish annually.
