The Golden Tag Competition is getting underway from 12:01am on Sunday 1 March 2020 as announced today by Minister for Fishing and Boating, Jaala Pulford.
There are 1,000 tagged fish across East Gippsland and the North East. The first 10 tags to be reported by fishers to the Victorian Fisheries Authority will win $10,000 and subsequent reported tag captures will win $2,000.
There have been a wide range of freshwater and estuarine species tagged as part of the promotion. Tagged species include black bream, dusky flathead, estuary perch, brown and rainbow trout, Murray cod, tailor, trevally and King George whiting.
We’re encouraging fishers to support our fire impacted communities and businesses in East Gippsland and North-East through recreational fishing tourism. We as recreational fishers spend on average $328 per fishing trip so hook up the boat or caravan, book your accommodation and turn up with your Empty Esky. Who knows, you might come away with a golden tag!
Tagged fish can be caught in areas such as Mallacoota, Cann River, Bemm River, Orbost, Marlo, Lakes Entrance, Lake Tyers, Omeo, Dartmouth, Mitta Mitta, Corryong, Tallangatta and Bright.
