Sorrento Local Port Area Plan

Parks Victoria are asking the community to have their say on the draft Sorrento Local Port Area Plan.

The plan aims to set out improvements to meet community needs, balancing and enhancing existing uses and creating new, safer recreation opportunities and shoring up the future for Sorrento Pier.

The draft plan presents two proposed design scenarios. According to Parks Victoria, the two scenarios have been developed to increasingly support local communities, acknowledge the pier’s history, consider future changes to the local port area, and accommodate visitors and users into the future.

Both scenarios include:

  • a rehabilitation of the existing Sorrento Pier
  • restoration of pier load rating
  • new fendering on the outer berths
  • removal of the inner east low landing
  • DDA-compliant ramp to the low landing
  • activation of the Sorrento Pier Shed
  • maintaining the historic character of the pier (a T-shaped pier head, retention of the goods shed, and original pier alignment along the stone mole)

The key difference is in the provisions for additional berthing which are scaled in Scenarios 1 and 2 in response to future demand – view the Sorrento Local Port Area Plan.
